One Day Without Shoes, April 5 - Hansen Surfboard plans to go Barefoot to Raise Awareness.



ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to increase awareness for One Day Without Shoes.



Research from the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that many kids around the world do not own a pair of shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.



"We’re participating in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to walk into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot," said Josh Hansen. "We’re doing this for the people who find themselves going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of 2 shoes could be huge on someone’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before."



In addition to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to drop off their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for 10 percent off a new pair of shoes or sandals for each pair donated at the store.



"The donated shoes add up pretty quickly, so whenever we are not able to keep any more of them piled up at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas towing a trailer full of the shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them," added Josh. "Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It’s one of our favorite programs here because we all know it has such a large impact."
